Now then,
Long time, no speak. Apologies, but sometimes an Elk needs its own space, a little time to reflect on what its done.
Luckily, unlike the pre-cursor to some depressing break-up, the space this particular Elk needed was mainly to record some fine new music.
Yes! Since we last spoke, the beautiful Elk has been hidden away in Manchester recording three new tracks with an Elk’s best friend, celebrity producer and all-round sound wizard, Karl Sveisineinsinenon (sic).

Cover of Ritch's first solo record: Electric Nicotine
We’ve recorded Good Crime, Integral Lines and the song I think we’re calling Vehicle, or maybe Connecting Dots. Although the latter sounds a bit too Emo Diaries. Maybe we’ll call it Cotton and Dots. Or Dot Cot… anyway, enough!
The rough mix of the songs sounds grand, but we’re still tweaking some stuff, rerecording bits and adding all sorts of stuff. Those who like a range of instruments will be glad to hear we’ve got a bit of violin and some futuristic synth on this record. Oh yes.
When or how it will be released is anyone’s guess. We’ve still got some unrelesed tracks from our previous session in the cupboard too, so who knows. But EP2 (as it’s provisionally called) will excite your ear drums – that’s a promise.
In the meantime though, if you haven’t already, you can download our first EP, entitled Reading Habits, for free, right here: Download the Reading Habits EP.
Gig-wise, the Elk is away in March and the very start of April, but it will be appearing at the GYPO All-Dayer in Grimsby on April 9th. So, if you’re a local lad or lass, do come along, get drunk, dance and generally revel in the shadow of Pleasure Island.

Sweet Disappointment: Tom underwhelmed by his portion of Baklava
Other than the Grimsby gig, the Elk will be pestering various people to get some more shows. Liverpool is on the cards and London too. And we’re also aiming to get up to the most northern reaches of England before too long as well.
So, all good stuff.
If you’d like to put us on in a town near you, just email us at thebandelk@gmail.com and we’ll see what we can do.
And hey, if you want to be all social media about it, why not head over to our page on facebook and ‘like’ this lonely old Elk. Everyone needs friends, and it’s even better if those friends are represented by some clever CSS coding. You could even share this post if you’re so inclined – just click on the facebook button below. What a magical world we live in, huh?
Oh, finally… ten Elk points to anyone who correctly guesses which film this post’s tag line is from. Pop your answer in the comments box below.
Keep it Elky,
Elk
